Youth and Indigenous ProgrammeIn December 2011, the CFC Group implemented its Youth and Indigenous Programme across their businesses. The aim of the programme is to provide employment opportunities for local disadvantaged youth in the areas where our businesses are located.
The CFC Group consists of Centurion Transport, Underground Services Australia, JCB CEA & Cape Crushing and Earthmoving.
Since the inception of the programme we have provided employment opportunities for approximately 70 indigenous people and increased the number of youth in the business significantly.
We now employ approximately 50 indigenous people and have also increased our number of youth significantly in all our business areas from Perth to Port Hedland, Kalgoorlie, Cloud-Break and many other regional locations.
The key to our success so far has been to train and educate our workforce on cross cultural and youth awareness ensuring our workplaces are sensitive for indigenous and youth issues of today.
A tour of the workplace prior to their employment has also been instrumental in ensuring a smooth transition into our businesses as well as ensuring the best possible match of employee and work place.
Once they have commenced their employment they are placed into their workplace, all of our workplaces have mentors strategically placed to support the new employees.
Another support mechanism developed by us is our Life Skills training which we deliver to our new employees, this includes topics such as -
- Financial planning
- Drugs and alcohol
- Career planning
- Social media
- Fitness for work
- Employment responsibilities
Following these principals in our employment of youth and indigenous has seen great results so far, our intention is to improve this even further which should see even better results.
